Campaign: Improve mental health provisions

Having a mental health condition can pose a variety of challenges.

As a volunteer I’ve seen how young people with mental health needs can benefit from the opportunity to be creative. Having a creative outlet allows them to express themselves in a way that boosts their confidence.

I am concerned about the lack of creative activities currently available for these young people in my area.

I feel there has actually been a decline in the provision, with some services being cut. I worry that this will leave them feeling alienated, neglected and alone.

With the help of Fixers I want to try to influence local decision-makers to fund more creative workshops for those with mental health conditions.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

Sanctuary Housing

Sanctuary is the UK’s leading provider of care, housing and community services.

The not-for-profit organisation is backing our campaign and working in partnership with Fixers to help support young people across the country address the issues they want to fix.

With over 94,000 units of accommodation across England and Scotland, Sanctuary believe that building strong communities and inspiring people to make a real difference is as important as providing them with a home.

Totally Teens

Youth group, Totally Teens, supports my Fix. The youth workers allowed me to use their venue for meetings and the young people attending the group helped contribute ideas for my project.

My Fixers posters are now printed and ready for me to distribute. You can see them at the bottom of this page.

I've received the following positive feedback from people who have seen the designs.

'Amazing creativity - really striking. Made me stop and look.'

'Very eye-catching and artistic.'

'The posters are fantastic, not only bringing into the picture images of Torbay but clearly showing the views of young people through art.'

'The posters are well designed to get the message across. Hopefully this will encourage young people to express themselves in a positive way.'

June 2013

I was invited to attend a special employee event at Sanctuary Housing’s headquarters in Worcester on Monday 24th June, where Sanctuary staff members were able to meet a number of Fixers.

It was a great opportunity to present my Fixers project to the audience of 30 employees, which included some senior management as well.
