Campaign: | To tackle stereotypes I feel employers have towards homeless people |
I'm hoping to raise awareness about the stereotypes some employers have towards homeless people.
I want to change the myth around young homeless people being unreliable and unemployable, when many want to get into work.
We want a chance to prove to local employers in Worcester that we are worth it.
I want more employers to see us as individuals rather than labeling us as outsiders.
I've experienced discrimination when applying for jobs based on where I live and think that it's because of this that I don't get to the interview stage.
Having lived in a youth hostel after leaving home a year ago, I want to encourage more people in the same position I was to go out there and do something.
Working with Fixers has helped me find myself again. My confidence is up and I feel like a different person.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

YMCA Worcester & Redditch YMCA
The YMCA has been a strong supporter of my Fixers project. They have been a driving force in creating employment opportunities for young people like me.
The not-for-profit organisation, which is a leading national housing and care provider, supports my Fixers project.
After hearing about my Fixers project and my hope of getting work experience in the catering industry, Sanctuary’s Group Head of Community Investment and Sustainability, Sophie Atkinson, arranged for me to meet someone from Sanctuary's catering department.
They have now offered me a job interview for a position in their catering department.
November 2013
My film 'Doors 2 Employment' was shown at a screening event held at Worcester College of Technology on Wednesday 27th November. It was one of four films being premiered and around fifty people turned up. Click here to read more about the event.

An article about our screening also appeared in the Worcester News. Click here to read the story.
People's reactions to my film have been fantastic. You can read some of this positive feedback below:
Penny West, Worcestershire Health and Care Trust
'The event helped to showcase the skills young people have and offered an opportunity for effective networking. I would consider offering work experience, apprenticeships in business admin and health and social care to some of these young people.'
'The event was professionally delivered and has a strong positive message. As I work with some of the young people here I have seen what they are capable of achieving.'
June 2013
I was invited to attend a special employee event at Sanctuary Housing’s headquarters in Worcester on Monday 24th June, where Sanctuary staff members were able to meet Fixers.
I presented my Fixers project and film (click here to watch) to an audience of 30 staff members, including some senior management as well.
During my presentation, I spoke about my dream of owning my own restaurant one day, but first wanting some experience in the catering industry.
After hearing this, Sanctuary’s Group Head of Community Investment and Sustainability, Sophie Atkinson, asked someone from Sanctuary’s catering department to come along and meet me.
They have now offered me a job interview for a position in the catering department!
