Skillnet Schools Team

Name: Skillnet Schools Team
Age: 21
Year of the Fix: 2013
Location: Kent
Campaign: Change perception of people with learning difficulties

We're a group of people from Thanet, Dover, Shepway and Swale in Kent who want to change how people perceive learning difficulties.

Not everyone in our group has a learning difficulty or disability - LDD for short - but we all want to change how people with learning difficulties are treated.

People with learning difficulties are just like anyone else. Learning difficulties are not barriers to living a fulfilling life.

We've created a short film in a TV game show format, in which we answer questions about learning difficulties. The idea is to change some of the stereotypes people hold about learning difficulties to make people more aware of the realities of living life with a learning disability.

Here is the list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

Skillnet Group

A special thanks to the Birgitte Perdios from the Skillnet Group and support workers Lis Clayson and Elvis Cudjoe, who have helped us with our Fixers project.

July 2013

Since completing our film, we have toured many schools across Kent to make young people aware of the realities of learning difficulties and disabilities. Here we are displaying our Fixers certificates upon completing our screenings.

Feedback from our project has been positive and encouraging, here is what some people have said:

Mr Manuel, Teacher:

'I thought it was very good, very informative, confronting some of the attitudes that we hold, very good.'

Jack, Year 8 Pupil:

'I thought it was really informative.'

Charlotte, Year 8 Pupil:

'It was really interesting.'

December 2012

Filming for our project is completed. See what some of the actors, who star in our Fixers film, had to say about working with us.

Lucie Reagan:

'It was lovely working with Fixers and meeting the people you support. If you have similar projects in the future, please do let me know, as I'd be keen to audition for you and to be involved.'

Rosie Houlton:

'It was lovely to work with such a nice bunch of people and a lovely organisation.'

Antonio Castaldo:
