Campaign: | Stop knife crime |
In 2008, my 14-year-old cousin – Shaquille Smith – was stabbed to death in Hackney, London.
He was the 25th young person to be stabbed in London that year. It was tough on our family as you never expect something like that to happen – Shaquille was just sitting in the park near our home.
But my elder cousin Daniel (24) and I wanted to do something about knife crime. I always thought I could do more to prevent this happening to other people.
So Daniel and I produced a play with Fixers, ‘Crime of the Century’, which showed the effects of knife crime. We’ve performed the play at over 160 locations nationwide, and we created a short film to accompany it too.
Since the play, we have also held a variety of workshops with a wide range of people, educating young people about the causes and effects of knife crime.
