I grew up in care with my two sisters. It was a challenging time and we were often separated, which was difficult.
I really struggled at school because I found that people looked down on me just because of my past, especially the teachers.
I was very resrved and used to dread subjects where we had to talk about family. Sometimes I wouldn’t even make eye contact with the teacher for fear they might ask me a question.
There seems to be a stereotype associated with care kids that they’ll never amount to anything, but we didn’t fit that label.
My two sisters have been to university and I’m working as a nursery worker.
We’ve teamed up with Fixers to show that anything is possible and growing up in care doesn’t define who you are as a person.
I would like to thank Faye Lazonby, Edwyna Hughes and Louise Hughes for helping me with this Fix.
