Campaign: | To encourage people with post- natal depression to get help |
I suffered from post-natal depression very badly and the problems started prior to my daughter Evie being born. I was concerned I’d be a bad mum.
A few weeks after she was born I was diagnosed with the condition.
Inside I felt heartless and I had no enjoyment in being a mum. I did it because I had to. Outwardly I looked fine, but inside my emotions were suffering.
By working with Fixers, I want to get the word out that post-natal depression doesn’t just impact on new mums, but on husbands and grandparents, the whole family.
It’s not talked about because people are too ashamed to say it happened to them. I have had people come up to me and say, ‘oh it happened to me too.'
I think that’s the message that I want to get across so we can break down the shame and stigma surrounding this.
I would like to thank Katherine Dalgliesh, Chief Executive of The Happy Mums Foundation, for helping me with this Fix.
Me and my friends want young people to know that calories aren't the enemy!
