We want to get young people talking about forced marriage. It’s an extremely taboo subject that often goes under the radar.
I believe that both women and men have a choice as to who they want to get married to, and it is not the right of others to control their future.
With Fixers, we have made a film about the illegal practice. We hope it will be shown to pupils in school assemblies and PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) lessons. We would also like it to be used to remind teachers to be on the lookout for youngsters who could be at risk.
By highlighting the issue, we want to show that help is available, and that young people have the right to say no if they are being pressured into marrying someone against their will.
