Name: 'Alisa'
Age: 17
Year of the Fix: 2018
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Campaign: To get professionals to spot the signs of CSE

My experience of grooming began when I moved to a new home. I had no friends and was feeling isolated.

I started talking to a 19-year-old man online. He was supportive and understanding and he made me feel safe and secure. I trusted him and so did my family.

He said mum wasn't caring for me and provided me with a place to stay. I thought I was going to a safe and stable place with the only person who seemed to care about me, but I became trapped.

My social worker visited but we never got an opportunity to talk alone. He had convinced my social worker he was caring for me when my mother wasn’t. My social worker and other professionals didn’t recognise the signs and I was left to be abused.

I want to educate professionals on how to recognise the signs of CSE and how to engage with young people who are victims of abuse.

Leanne Hansen from South Tyneside Council supported me with this Fix.
