Name: Summer Hammond
Age: 20
Year of the Fix: 2017
Location: Margate, Kent
Campaign: To show young mums living in supported accommodation that it’s okay to ask for help

I was in care from the age of 14. After a few years living in foster care, I went into supported living about four years later.

It was around that time that I fell pregnant, which completely changed my life.

It was quite challenging living in supported accommodation and raising a baby. I had to live in very basic accommodation and even had to visit food banks to feed my daughter.

One thing I wish I should have done more was ask for help.

I’m now working on a Fixers campaign to encourage other young parents with similar experiences to mine that it’s okay to ask for help and it doesn’t make you a bad mum.

Hopefully my campaign will show others they’re not alone.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with this Fix:

Aaron Love

Curtis Lorgan

Bronwen Fields

Aylissa Monroe

Amber Emsky

Abigail Coles

This Fixers project was supported by Colyer-Fergusson.
