Campaign: To get the professionals to engage more with young people who are caring for relatives with a mental health condition

I’ve been caring for my mum since she developed mental health problems when I was about 11 years old.

I quickly found out that the mental health professionals weren’t interested in giving me any information or listening to anything I had to say about my mum’s treatment. Basically they ignored me.

Fixers is helping me with my project. I want the professionals to tell young carers like me more about the illness that their relative is suffering from. That way they’d be able to do a better job as carers.

And I’d also like the professionals to listen more to what the carers have to say – after all they live with the patient all the time and know all about their symptoms. I’m sure we could help devise a better treatment package.

I would like to thank Trevor Froggatt of Northamptonshire Young Carers for helping me with this fix.
