Paige Sheerin

Name: Paige Sheerin
Age: 16
Year of the Fix: 2017
Location: Randalstown, County Antrim
Campaign: To encourage young people to volunteer within their local communities

We went with our school to Romania and got to see how the money we had previously raised to help communities there had been spent.  We also got to buy supplies for all the families that we went to visit.

It was utterly life-changing and gave us the ambition to try to make a change.

We want to get the message out that you don’t have to go abroad to volunteer, there are plenty of opportunities in your local community.

We are making a film with Fixers which will show us volunteering in different settings.  We’d like to screen it in schools because we think younger people don’t know how to get involved.

You get a really good feeling when you help other young people.  I would say that no matter what opportunity comes your way, pursue it to the fullest.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with this Fix:

Fionn Johnston

Aine Doherty

Conn McGee

Allen Dungo

Daniella Timperley

Anastasija Chlebuskina

Michael Plant

Georgia Kelly

Laura Lynch

I would like to thank Gavin Connolly from Volunteer Now, who appeared in my broadcast story.

I also want to thank Christine Keenan from Hope and a Future and Sean McAuley from St Benedict's College.
