I’m from a British Pakistani background. Growing up in a predominantly Caucasian area of Birmingham was a challenge, especially at school.
It was difficult to mix in with the other kids because I felt different to them. It got to a stage where I had to try and assimilate and hide my Pakistani heritage to be accepted.
But over time I questioned why I was concealing part of myself which I should be proud to share with others.
I’ve made a film with Fixers showing that no matter if you have a hybrid culture, it’s important you celebrate your differences. It doesn’t make you less British.
