Ashley Marks

Name: Ashley Marks
Age: 24
Year of the Fix: 2017
Location: Newport, South Wales
Campaign: To highlight looming changes to young people's housing benefit

By the age of 24, I thought I would soon be able to move out of home and gain my independence.

However, huge changes to housing benefit for the under 35s being introduced in April 2019, mean I will be one of many young people who won't be given as much help with their rent.

Knowing this in advance means that I am fully aware that I can no longer afford to move out.

My Fixer's group are concerned that many young people don't realise that the changes are coming and how they could have a life-changing impact on them.

We have designed coasters to get the information out there and to encourage young people to start planning accordingly.

My Fixers team includes:

Rhiannon Parker

Alenah Jones

Jake Love

Nicole Johnson

Kirsty Marks

Jamie Williams

Darcy Rogers

Chantelle Evans

Rebecca Thomas

Sam Newman

I would like to thanks the following people for supporting this Fix:

Kate Aspinwall from Newport City Homes

Julie Little from Gwent Welfare Reform Partnership (GWRP)

Samantha Howells and Gareth Jones at Charter Housing

Youth worker Jenny Roach
