My mum suffers from osteoporosis and anxiety. My brother Joe has cerebral palsy, autism and epilepsy. I’ve been looking after them both since my dad died when I was 11.
I want people to know that being a young carer entails a lot more than helping out with a few household chores.
As well as making sure my brother and mum have taken all their medication, I clean, cook, do the food shopping. I do the garden and just about everything else around the house.
All I’m asking for is a bit more understanding and appreciation of a young carer’s role.
