With Fixers I want to challenge perceptions of beauty.
When I was three years old my dress caught fire. I survived but it left me with forty percent burns covering my body.
This left me with not just physical scarring but the emotional scars that come with that, particularly to do with confidence and how I felt in myself.
I think we’re surrounded by a lot of very unrealistic beauty standards and I feel that really effects young people’s self esteem.
I’ve made a magazine cover poster featuring myself, i.e. someone you would not typically see on one of those covers.
When people look at the poster, especially young girls, I hope they start asking for more diversity of images in media.
The following Fixers helped me with this Fix:
Helga Dittmar from the University of Sussex and Mary Russell from Models of Diversity supported me with this Fix.
