Brandon Smythe

Name: Brandon Smythe
Age: 18
Year of the Fix: 2017
Location: Aberbargoed, South Wales
Campaign: To stop people using the word 'gay' in a negative context

Growing up I was the only gay person in my year and I stood out like a sore thumb. I was verbally bullied and it made me feel really isolated.

I have created a leaflet with Fixers to help people who are not fully aware of what the LGBT community experience and how we are a vulnerable group when it comes to mental health issues.

Many people do not appreciate how hateful words and prejudice can affect someone's state of mind.

I want everyone to know that the word 'gay' should not be used as a negative word or an insult, and that words can do more damage than they think.

The following Fixers helped me with this Fix:

James Thomas

Amy Griffiths

Emily Mills

Chantelle Garland

Amy Lavender

Paige Jeffrey

Chelsey Jones

Carly James

Chloe Bargoed James

Shannon Dobbs

Charlie Brace

Lauren Philips

John Lead Beater and Carla Jones from Kier Construction and Karen Stafford-Davies from Coleg Y Cymoedd, supported me with this Fix.
