Campaign: To eradicate the stigma of grieving for a pet

I was badly bullied at school and it got so bad that I decided I needed to start afresh.  I changed schools and while it was the best thing I could have done, it was a really unsettling time.

My mum was advised that getting a pet could help provide me with some stability and comfort.

Getting my kitten Nirvana was amazing, she quickly became my best friend.  So I was utterly devastated when she passed away suddenly two years later.

There is such a stigma surrounding grieving for a pet.  It is often dismissed as silly or stupid, but many people don’t understand how a pet can become part of the family.

When I finally did open up to my best friend, it was the best thing I could have done.  I’ve made an animated film with Fixers to encourage other people in the same situation not to bottle up their feelings.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my project:

Richard Geer
Becky Thomas
