Name: Luis John
Age: 22
Year of the Fix: 2016
Location: Catford, London
Campaign: To help people understand Asperger's Syndrome

I was about one year old when I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome.

I struggle with reading, writing and explaining myself at times.

My friends know how I communicate, what I understand and what I don't understand, and how to get around that.

But it can be frustrating at times trying to keep up with the pace of the world around me.

I want people to understand me, because a lot of people make assumptions about what I'm trying to say.

People can't understand how different the world is to me simply by looking at me, which is why I wanted to make a film with Fixers which would show them the world through my eyes.

I want people to understand what it's like to have Asperger's Syndrome and show that it hasn't stopped me from achieving my goals.

Simon Trodd helped me with this Fix.

L&Q

For over 50 years, L&Q has been driven by its mission to create places where people want to live.  A leading housing association, it owns or manages more than 71,000 homes across London and the South East - making it one of the largest residential landlords in the capital.  L&Q invests in people and the communities it serves and over the coming year, through the L&Q Foundation, it will invest £7 million on community initiatives, helping residents improve their life chances.

L&Q is working in partnership with Fixers because we recognise the positive contribution that our young residents can and do make to their communities, and we are keen to give them the right support to do this. “Fixers is an exciting opportunity to empower young people  to make positive changes, within their communities and raise awareness of issues that affect L&Q’s young residents.” Paul Nehra, L&Q’s Community Investment Manager.

EFG Flying School and Biggin Hill Airport Fire Department also supported me with this Fix.
