Lucy Mathison

Name: Lucy Mathison
Age: 18
Year of the Fix: 2016
Location: Monkseaton, Tyne and Wear
Campaign: To raise awareness of eating disorders

My eating disorder started when I was eight years old.

For two months I ate nothing except bread. When my mum started asking questions about what I was doing I started eating normally again, but made myself sick to keep control of my weight.

Nobody noticed in the years that followed - I was really secretive about what I was doing and always wore very baggy clothes.

My eating disorder got worse when I was 15. I lost three stone in three months, my periods stopped for 10 months and my hair was falling out, I was always cold and I vomited blood a few times.

I became suicidal and attempted to take my own life twice last year. I was hospitalised and it was there that I started getting proper help for my eating disorder.

I made the film with Fixers because I want to fight stigma concerning eating disorders. I want to show that it isn't always about seeing a model on TV and wanting to look like them. It's a mental illness - a voice in your head that tells you that you need to lose weight.
