I’ve been a lifeguard on Blyth beach in Northumberland since I was 16. The sea can be unpredictable and some of the risks include rip currents that you can’t see; it’s easy to get dragged out to sea.
Part of my role is to give out safety advice. Generally people listen, but there have been times when people have ignored it and found themselves in difficulty – and I’ve had to go out and rescue them.
It’s great to see people out enjoying the beach, but my message is make sure you have knowledge about the beach and the sea so that you can enjoy it safely.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with this Fix:
Michele Weedy, Blyth Lifeguard Captain supported our Fixers project by providing an interview for the ITV News broadcast.
