Campaign: | To challenge prejudice against transgender people |
I was born a boy called Aaron, but from an ealry age I had feelings that I was trapped in the wrong body.
I was always quite feminine as a kid. My mum would buy me Action Men, but I’d always be more interested in Barbie.
When I told her I was transgender, I think she found it quite hard to deal with at first because I was rejecting the little boy she once knew. But I just didn’t want to live a lie anymore.
Although I feel free now, I still experience a fair bit of discrimination and was even thrown out of a club after being told I couldn't use the ladies' toilets.
I’m now working with Fixers to change people’s perceptions of the trans community and encourage them understand that we’re human too.
Hopefully I can alter the way society views transgender people and also be a role model to others in my situation.
I would like to thank Thanujaa Chelvanathan and Hannah Fletcher for helping me with this Fix.
