I started self-harming when I was 13 after being bullied by kids at school.
It started with just flicking myself hard with a bobble on my wrist whenever I felt upset.
I don’t think I realised it back then, but I was using it as a coping mechanism.
It wasn’t until two years ago that I made a conscious decision to stop, after finding out about singer Demi Lovato’s own battle with depression.
I knew that if she could beat it, with all the pressures she faces in the spotlight, then I could too.
I needed someone to tell me that life gets better, and that someone was Demi Lovato.
Now I want to share my story too. The more people hear that recovery is possible, the more people are likely to believe it.
