Campaign: | To encourage more support for young carers at university |
I became a young carer at the age of 11 when I started looking after several family members.
At first, I just thought it was normal. It was only until we started to learn about it at college, that I realised I was one.
One thing which can make it hard for young carers is going to university and having to manage their education and home responsibilities simultaneously.
My Fixers campaign is to encourage universities to be more sympathetic of a young carer’s needs so they feel more supported.
Chloe Alexander supported the project by advising on some carers booklets to go inside the bag I created with Fixers.
Ant Lea is supporting the launch event by attending and representing the Carers Trust. He is having a stall along with Fixers on the university campus so students can come and chat and find out more about being a carer and seek support if they are a carer themselves. Ant has also shared merchandise that will go inside Sophies bag.
Kate Addison has supported the project by providing postcards from CarersUK that will be put inside the bags to be handed out on the launch day. Kate is also supporting the campaign over social media.
Dave Wilcock is supporting this project by coming along to the launch and representing The Carers Trust.
