Campaign: | To encourage doctors to take the time to communicate with patients who have learning disabilities |
My team and I have learning disabilities.
When we visit the doctor we often feel like they talk to our parents and don’t communicate with us, perhaps because they think we won’t understand.
This is frustrating because a medical examination can be scary if we’re not told what to expect.
With Fixers, we’re asking health professionals to take the time to explain things to us, so that we know what’s going on.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with this Fix:
Alicia Rywczuk
Ashley Cundall
Chris Wood
Samantha Flannigan
I would like to thank Helen McKay and Dianne McInnes at Paperworks, who provided invaluable support with on-going work with the group, particularly with communication skills and presenting our project. They also organised transport for us to get to location for the film shoot.
A special thank you to Harriet Wright at YouthWatch for providing us with her support. She also took care of locations and props for the film shoot and contacts to circulate our project.
She also organised an event that we used to launch our film. The organisation has continuously promoted our project amongst their networks.
