Ashleigh

Name: Ashleigh
Age: 26
Year of the Fix: 2016
Location: Castle Douglas, Dumfries
Campaign: To show people with mental health issues that drink and drugs are not the answer

I was diagnosed with post-natal depression and was drinking every day.

I tried to hide my feelings and thought they’d go away with alcohol.

The first few drinks would elevate my mood, so I’d keep drinking. But the more I drank, the more unstable I became, so what I was trying to achieve wasn’t working.

My Fixers project is to encourage young people with mental health issues to seek help, rather than turning to drink or drugs.

I hope to inspire people to speak to someone they trust, rather than trying to manage their problems alone.

* Note: Fixers sometimes go beyond the 16-25 year age bracket while working on their Fix.

Psychotherapist, Allene Hatherell
Allene supports my Fix. She agreed to be interviewed to appear in my TV film.
