Shay

Name: Shay Miah
Age: 20
Year of the Fix: 2016
Location: Hartlepool, County Durham
Campaign: To tackle racism and Islamophobia

Many people hear the word Islam and automatically think terrorism, which is sad. I do sometimes feel like I’m hated for my religion and I have been physically and verbally abused in the past.

In light of recent world events, I feel that Islamophobia is getting worse.

People are mistaking minority extremists for the majority of the Muslim community, which is causing many like me to fear for their safety.

I’m working with Fixers to encourage people to be more tolerant of others and make society a fairer place for everyone.

Samia Begum is helping me with this Fix.

Teeside University

Matthew Feldman, Professor in Contemporary History at the university, supports my Fix. He agreed to be interviewed to appear in my broadcast film.
