Campaign: | To end gender stereotypes in sport |
I first started skateboarding as a teenager and loved it. But the boys at school would say that girls couldn't skate, which made me feel unwelcome. I stopped skating and didn’t try it again for around six or seven years.
Even now, I still feel intimidated if I’m the only girl at the skate park, but it’s worth it because I enjoy it so much.
It’s my view that women shouldn’t be put off by a pre-conceived idea of what they should and shouldn’t do. Gender shouldn’t be a barrier in sport.
With Fixers, my team and I want to encourage more women to try activities like skateboarding that are perceived to be male-dominated.
Hopefully our campaign can help to end gender stereotypes in sport.
