I was born with a deformity in my right arm. I have an elbow joint, but it doesn’t move, I have very minimal movement in my wrist and only two fingers on my right hand.
But I’ve not let it hold me back in life and have a successful sporting career. I was a member of the British swimming team for over ten years, before a shoulder injury ruled me out.
Since then, I’ve discovered martial arts and that’s given me a new purpose.
When I first started competing, you would see opponents question whether it was okay to fight the disabled person.
Now I go to competitions and they see me as anyone else, which is a really good feeling.
I’m working with Fixers to change the negative perception of disabled people in martial arts and show that it is possible to compete on an equal level.
I hope it will encourage others to give it a go.
