Campaign: | To encourage women to embrace their natural hairstyles |
I’m concerned that women can sometimes feel self-conscious about the way their hair looks naturally.
Magazines can feature just one style which may put pressure on others to conform.
When I wear my hair in braids, I’ve had people tell me I look messy, and if my hair stays in its natural afro, I’ve experienced people making assumptions about my personality.
With Fixers, I want to show women of all backgrounds that it doesn’t matter if their hair is afro, curly, grey, or in any other style that isn’t regularly featured on models.
They should embrace their natural look and be proud of their appearance.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with this Fix:
Lana Miller
Linda Gyamfi
Monique Jackson
Vanessa Sarfo
Cheryl Lowe, Ingrid Hillbank, Jennie Wright, Kaliyah-Stephens Well and Krystal Stephens support my Fix. They feature in my Fixers flyer, showing off their natural hairstyles!
Thanks also to Stella Ekebuisi and Maeve Wearne who took part in a focus group about my project.
Irene Shelley, Black Beauty and Hair Magazine
Irene, Editor of the magazine, supports my Fix. She agreed to be interviewed to appear in my broadcast piece.
The team at Purely Natural support my project. They allowed us to film part of my broadcast piece at their salon in Stratford.
