I am a volunteer at the Maryport Inshore Rescue Service.
The crew are on call 365 days a year, 24-hours a day. It’s quite a physically demanding job, which often involves attending to people stranded at sea or recovering vessels from the water.
We ran a Fixers campaign about four years ago to attract more young recruits to help us out.
Fortunately, the service is now going from strength to strength and we’ve seen a 25 to 30 per cent increase in young volunteers since then.
I feel proud to have been part of the campaign four years ago because it actually worked and now the future of this fantastic service is more secure.
*Note: Some Fixers exceed the age range of 16 to 25 during the course of their project.
