My team and I feel that young people don’t know enough about teenage cancer, as it’s not often spoken about. This is worrying, because it’s important that everyone knows the signs and symptoms to look out for.Young people should also know that support is available should they want to talk about it – if they, or someone close to them, has been affected. With Fixers, we held an event at Coleg Cambria in Wrexham to raise awareness of teenage cancer and encourage others our age to learn more about the illness. We held informative sessions with around 100 young people at a time, where we taught them about the warning signs and encouraged them to share if they’d been affected by cancer in any way.Hopefully they left with a better understanding of the illness and will now feel more comfortable speaking about it.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with this Fix:
Pam Wedley, Macmillan Shooting Star
Pam supported our Fix. She attended our event and provided information about different types of cancer.
Teenage Cancer Trust
The Teenage Cancer Trust support our project. They provided us with the information we needed for our campaign.
Vanessa has helped facilitate our project and has supported us throughout.
Our event was attended by over 200 people and had some great feedback! You can see photos from the event below.
