Boxing has been a passion of mine for many years.
Sadly, some people think it’s a violent sport, but there are benefits that get overlooked.
It has taught me discipline, respect and improved my confidence.
With Fixers and the rest of my team, I’ve helped to create a poster campaign to highlight the advantages of boxing.
Hopefully, it will stop people from negatively stereotyping the sport and encourage them to give it a go.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with this Fix:
Monkstown Boxing Club
Paul Johnston, Youth Programmes Manager at the club, supports our Fix. He’s provided advice while we’ve been working on our project.
St John's Boxing Club, Swatragh
Ciaran Quinn is a boxing coach and helped to set up our club.
The Link Centre
Heather Boyd, Project Worker at the Link Centre, supports our Fix. She’s helped facilitate our project by arranging meetings.
We’ve distributed our posters to local schools and youth clubs and have received positive feedback. You can read some of the comments below.
‘As a keen footballer, it’s good to know that there’s a boxing club so close to home. I can use it as part of my training.’
‘Finding out there’s a boxing club in the town is good as it gives me and my mates something else to do.’
‘Seeing the poster around town is good because it lets people know that there are good things happening here.’
‘I think the poster will definitely encourage people to consider giving boxing a try.’
‘I like the look of the poster. I can see it being used by clubs in different settings across the country.’
‘As an athlete I’m always looking for other things to add into my training. Boxing could be one option.’
