Campaign: | To educate young people about the risks of female genital mutilation (FGM) |
My team and I are concerned that there’s a lack of understanding surrounding female genital mutilation (FGM).
It’s illegal in the UK, but some cultures accept the procedure as tradition – it involves intentionally altering or causing injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons.
We want to challenge the deep-rooted beliefs in the ritual, as it can cause real physical and psychological harm.
It can have lifetime repercussions for those subjected to it and we feel education is key to abolishing the practice.
With Fixers, we hope to take our message into schools and colleges to raise awareness of FGM.
If young people have a better understanding of why this damaging practice needs to stop, then we can work together to protect future generations.
