Campaign: | To highlight the benefits of cheerleading |
One of my passions in life is cheerleading.
It’s a great sport that demands a huge amount of dedication and skill, and it can take years to perfect.
Unfortunately many people tend to dismiss it, suggesting that it’s nothing more than a bit of fun for teenage girls.
My team and I want to show that it’s so much more than that. It can give those who take part confidence, team building and communication skills, and it can improve their fitness.
In an effort to challenge some of the negative misconceptions surrounding cheerleading, we worked with Fixers to help organise a flashmob.
Held in Durham City Centre, it was a chance for us to demonstrate all that's good about cheerleading.
We were able to show people that it's a genuine sport, which everybody can enjoy.

January 2015
On Saturday 6th December 2014, around 20 members of the Durham Cheerleading Academy joined me to participate in a flashmob at the Prince Bishops Shopping Centre. The event was aimed at raising the profile of cheerleading – showing others that it is a genuine sport, and something that anyone can try. It was well received, with those who came along and offered feedback describing it as ‘brilliant’, ‘fantastic’ and ‘fabulous’!
