I find it worrying to see or hear of school pupils consuming lots of energy drinks.
Research has shown that drinking too many of the high caffeine products can come with potential health risks, and this is something that I'm keen to make young people aware of.
With Fixers, I'm working on a campaign to prompt young people to re-evaluate their choices.
I want them to reduce their consumption of energy drinks, replacing them with healthier alternatives.
Liam Chaplin has helped me with this Fix.
East of England Co-op Simon Stewart, who manages a branch of the East of England Co-op in Essex, supports my project. He appears in my TV broadcast, speaking about the store’s policy on selling energy drinks to young people.
Riaan McCrae, Dentist Riaan, a dentist at The Cosmetic Dental Studio, has supported my Fix. He agreed to be interviewed to appear in my broadcast piece, speaking about the effects of energy drinks on tooth enamel.
TeenTalk Harwich Sophia Ioannou, Youth Worker at TeenTalk Harwich, supports my Fix. She participated in a focus group filmed for my broadcast piece.
Thank you also to my brother, Daniel, and to Emma Davis, for taking part in the focus group.
January 2015 I’ve won a prestigious Diana Award, along with the rest of the Harwich Inspired Youth Action (HIYA) group, for my Fixers campaign. The award recognises young people who are considered to be socially active and inspirational.
I've had some great feedback since my campaign was featured on ITV. You can see some of this feedback below:
'Well done Beth. The drinks companies have no shame in targeting these toxic drinks to children. I'm worried about their impact on calcium absorption which affects bone development when you are growing.'
'I will be watching this as I have an addiction to energy drinks. I have to have them every day even though I know they are not good for me.'
'Well done Beth! Good for you. I'm happy to be on board too. There are too many energy drinks out there.'
'Well done Beth. You have got my support with this!'
