Kevin

Name: Kevin Ackermann
Age: 26
Year of the Fix: 2014
Location: Hackney, North East London
Campaign: To help stop human trafficking

I consider myself to have had a very privileged upbringing and it wasn’t until I quit my job in banking and began to travel that my eyes were opened to the prevalence of poverty and the problem of human trafficking.

It makes me both angry and sad to hear of cases where people have been trafficked. Victims’ experiences are unimaginable for most of us.

In London, I don’t think people are always aware of the extent of human trafficking.  The truth is it’s never far away. The construction workers building the extension next door, or the kitchen staff washing dishes at your favourite restaurant, could have been brought here and forced to work long hours for minimal pay.

With Fixers, I want to raise awareness of human trafficking and show people how to spot when someone is being exploited.

I hope that if people know what to look out for, they’ll feel confident reporting their concerns and more victims of human trafficking will get the help they need.

* Note: Fixers sometimes go beyond the 16-25 year age bracket while working on their Fix.
