Often young people don’t realise what great facilities they have on their doorstep.
They might hang around thinking there’s nothing to do, when actually there’s plenty if they just know where to look.
My team and I have found this to be the case in our home town of Yate in South Gloucestershire.
So, with Fixers, we’re raising awareness of youth services in our area, introducing local young people to places like the Armadillo Youth Venue and Café.
By encouraging young people off the streets, we also hope to improve the way teenagers are perceived by older members of our community.
At the moment we worry that they’re judged to be anti-social and lazy, perhaps because they don’t know what to do or where to go.
Hopefully our project will help to change these views and will prompt young people to make better use of Yate’s great facilities.
