Campaign: To show that cancer can affect young people too

I lost a close friend to breast cancer last year and it was really hard to deal with.

Elise was the same age as me and in the prime of her life, but the disease stole that away from her.

In an effort to stop this tragedy happening to others, I’m campaigning to show how cancer can affect young people too.

With Fixers, my team and I are designing a leaflet, which will hopefully give others the confidence to get checked if they have any health concerns.

We aim to get more young people understanding their bodies and knowing what to do if something isn’t quite right.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

Alexandra Jones

Karen Benedek

Matthew Chandler

Victoria Robinson

CLIC Sargent

CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. Assistant Director Paul Gathercole supported our Fix by providing an interview for the broadcast item, in which he explained how cancer can affect young people.

I am very grateful for all the positive feedback we have received for our Fixers campaign and the television story I featured in.

I miss my friend Elise very much and felt I had to do something special in memory of how amazing a person she was.

Here is what her family and friends have to say about our Fixers campaign:

David Gibb: ‘Hayley, Elise would be so proud of you. My wife fought to the end and never gave up hope. Please support this great cause by commenting and sharing.’

Jan Chandler: ‘I am Elise’s mum. I would just like to say a massive thank you to Hayley for making this film. We will miss and love Elise forever. If this saves just one life, then it will be wonderful and a family will be saved the heartache that we have gone through.’

Hannah: ‘Elise would be really proud that someone is going out there and getting the attention it needs. She was a good friend and it's such a shame to not have her here anymore.’

Carol: 'Well done, Hayley. You did her proud.'
