Name: Sebastian Hau-Walker
Age: 25
Year of the Fix: 2014
Location: Hackney Wick, London
Campaign: To bring artists and residents together to appreciate their community

I’m part of a group of artists known as the Cluster Bomb Collective, who are based in Hackney Wick.

Last year, flytippers dumped 49 tonnes of waste on Mabley Meadow, a green space in our local area. It’s been cleared now, but it’ll be a while before it’s completely regrown.

With Fixers, we’ve come up with an art project to encourage people to get together to discuss things like regeneration and how to shape the future. It will be presented as workshops at the 2014 Hackney Wicked Festival.

At the workshops we’ll get people to create their own piece of art, designed to highlight the importance of green spaces and gardens in urban communities like ours. We’ll also put on performances, walking participants around the local area.

The idea is that our project will bring artists and residents together – encouraging everyone to explore both ideas, and parts of Hackney Wick that they might not have visited before.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

Charlotte Walker Nihaarika Negi
Alisa Leimane Benedict Browne
Jack Condon Jacob Woods
Silverley Allen Charly Flyte
Hannah Cole Alicia Radage
Elenor Hellis Josephine Joy-McCourt
Eliza Soroga Oliver Evelyn-Rahr
Chloe Spicer

Thank you to Lucy Teather and Tom Callow, who volunteered their time to help us with our Fix on the day of the event.

September 2014
Around 40 people aged between 13 and 56 took part in the workshops and performances we ran this summer during the 2014 Hackney Wicked Festival.

It was our aim to bring members of our local community together and we received some excellent feedback from those who participated.

One person described our arts project as ‘thought-provoking,’ with others adding that it was ‘really inspiring’ and ‘an emotive performance.’

August 2014
Preparations are well underway for our workshops, which are taking place on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd August at the Hackney Wicked Festival.

Participants will be asked to create their own miniature concrete desert islands. Seeds will be set into the concrete so that when they grow, the concrete will break apart.

We’ll then walk those attending the workshops through Hackney Wick as part of a performance event.

Those interested in joining in can meet us at Forman’s Smokehouse on Stour Road at any time between 12:00 and 6:00pm.
